It's on XHTML. *sigh*

How did I do exams in high school? I find them so torturous now that I'm at uni.

It's kind of weird though, because I'm almost 100% that I've passed this subject anyway, because the exam is only worth 30% ('only') of my entire grade for the subject. I'd like to get better than a pass though, even though the biggest thing this subject has taught me is that I'm not a 'below the interface' kind of person. I could not write a line of code to save my life.

Ok, so that sounded fatalistic. I could write a line of code if in the unlikely event it would save my life. But under normal, non-life-threatening conditions I just do not have the patience to sit at a computer and wrestle with trying to get that box just *there* and then make sure it stays there even if you look at in in Internet Explorer 4.0 using a widescreen monitor. And to the people who are looking at the internet using IE 4.0 I ask you, what are you doing with a widescreen monitor? The least you could do is upgrade your browser.

Also, IE 6 is from the devil. Kill it. Kill it deader than all kinds of deceased. It is Hades itself.

The good news about all this talk of exams is that after tomorrow morning, I'm going to be uni-free. Awesome. That leaves me more time to write that novel I said I'd write in 30 days and make more YouTube videos and find a way of selling my car but still holding on to it until I need to go.

Also I'm gonna get right into this new trend called moving. It's awesome. It's where you ring up your boss, tell her that you will quit in a month's time and then find a job in another city and move there. It's all the rage. You've got to actually deal with how much stuff you own rather than just shoving it away in cupboards and stuff and then forgetting that you had it in the first place. Also you've got to pull all those dusty, dirty potentially cockroach infested sleeping bags/suitcases/stuff from under your bed and deal with them too.

This is going to be great. I feel like going out and drinking espresso from little shot glasses.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2007-11-07T06:09:29Z</dcterms:modified>

Aaaah! Gotta keep this thing updated!

First it's sickness, now it's assignments. Let's just hope they don't join evil forces making evil-zombie-sickness-assignments. I'm pretty sure the 'dysentery' I talked about in my previous entry was actually food poisoning brought on by that chicken sandwich I bought at the uni cafeteria. Ugh.

So now my assertion that IT subjects are the most work out of all the communications subjects is coming true. There's like one assignment every week. This is madness. I've got tags coming out of my ears. I even looked under my bed and found some CSS hiding under there. It was pretty crazy. Luckily my other subject is pretty crusey. All I have to do is think about new media and how it affects our lives and culture. Then I have to distill my views into 1500 words within two weeks. Um... sweet. But it's easier than trying to code an entire website in one week, particularly one that has to write about all the intricacies of Web 2.0. in an inverted-pyramid style with no more than one A4's worth of information per page. It's all very complicated, nobody likes to read big blocks of text like this one. Go on, I bet you aren't even reading now, because this paragraph is too long and not relevant to what you want to know.

Yeah I thought so.

But in my web-trawlings I found this pretty-cool Periodic Table of the Internet. Check it out.

Fillet

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2007-08-15T04:01:18Z</dcterms:modified>

BREAKING NEWS!!!!

I STOOD ON A SLIVER OF GLASS!!!

IT HURT!!!

Oh yeah, and these were my results for uni this semester:

Semester 2 - 2006

1017 B Communication

1502ART / Communication Practice - D

1503ART / News and Politics - D

1504ART / Digital Video Foundations - HD

1011AMC / Great Ideas - HD

Term GPA: 6.500

Cumulative GPA: 5.875

Not to brag or anything ;-P

You could say I'm pretty stoked about that, especially considering I was hoping for a credit for most of my subjects and distinction for Digital Video Foundations. Also, I thought I was going to fail Great Ideas but in the end I got a HD for it. I do not know how that works. I still maintain that it was a very very sucky essay (worth 50%) and I was just hoping for a pass. I'll post it up here for you all to pass your judgement on in a day or two so you know I'm not just being fake-humble (which really means I'm arrogant).

My only explaination for the weirdly high grade is that my tutor thought I was pretty awesome becasue I participated in class (even though I didn't really get what he meant) and so when he saw my name on the essay the rose-tinted glasses went into overdrive. I just don't get it. But I'm not complaining, no way. I would like to see the marked essay though, just to see why he thought I was so philosophically attuned.

Stoked! Stoked!

Fillet

P.S. Can somebody explain the GPA system we have here in Australia? I don't get it. Sweet. Thanks.

P.P.S. Oops! I forgot to mention, if you didn't see them there are two other entries below this one mmmkay? Cpol.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-12-01T02:14:10Z</dcterms:modified>

You Spent How Long? For What?

I wasn't going to do an entry today but the events that took place on my way to uni are too good a story (or should that be opportunity to complain?) to waste.

Let me start at the begining: After going to bed at 12:10 last night I had to wake up at 6:50am so I could go to my 'Great Ideas' tute that my lecturer evilly scheduled to start on the first week. To be honest, nearly seven hours sleep isn't that bad but for some reason I had trouble staying awake enough not to literally stagger around the house in front of the Korean children. I left the house at 7:30 and ended up at school (Hillcrest) where I dozed listening to my iPod reading about Hezbollah in Time magazine. I did that until 9-something when Dad took me to Robina because he had to buy a digital camera for the school. We did that and even sneaked in some morning tea at Donut King. Despite my state of minimal consciousness, this may be a good day after all.

What I didn't count on, however, is my inability to remember important details like, oh, for instance, getting money out to pay for the train ticket. I mosey along to the train station, it must be just over half a kilometre away and I have 20 minutes to spare. But when I go to pay for the ticket I have no money.

No money = No ticket.

I ran, RAN! To the shopping centre so I could get out some money. It's been raining so I got my Connies wet and thus, my socks. I then ran all the way back to the train station. I'm in a lather of sweat but I get on the train with a minute to spare. And then the police arrived. I'm sure they're looking for somebody suspicious and right now, I'm as suspicious-looking as you can get: I've been running, I'm puffed and sweaty, I'm clutching a fairly large bag, I'm male and I'm a teenager. I frown at the old couples looking harrassed when I sit down. They look at the police and motion with their eyes that the little thug is sitting opposite them. I musn't have matched the description though because they didn't come and arrest me.

So I got off the train at my station and leave the pensioners to their suspicious thoughts. I get off and need to go to the toilet. They are locked. Nice. But I'm also thirsty. So the question becomes, quench thirs and nearly explode or just leave it and not wet myself but die of thirst? I chose the first option and bought a bottle of Coke for $2.90 (What?!?). I was annoyed but at least the run woke me up. I drink my Coke and begin to write this in the back of my 'Great Ideas' notebook.

I would listen to my iPod but my eardrums are still sweaty. But that's ok, there's a guy with a black mohawk listening to heavy metal standing a good five metres away whose music I can hear quite clearly from his earbud headphones. I listen to the senseless drum solos and raging guitars and enjoy myself, pretty soon he will be deaf and won't be able to hear anything again. I savour the thought and ride out the annoyance.

I turn up to my tute and sit outside right up until the dot of twelve. I think to myself, "It's 12 o'clock now and I should be going into my tute." I stand up. "But I'm going to be the only one in the tute because I'm the only one stupid enough to show up". I walk up to the door and open it. I'm confronted by a classful of students. I look a bit dazzled and wonder if I have the right class. I look at one of the girl's books and see the heading 'Great Ideas'. I smile nervously because everybody is looking at me and sit down. At the back. Where there is the only free table left. The tute goes for all of 45 minutes and then it's over. I hop on the bus again for the half-hour ride to Robina. I wait for two hours and get picked up by my Mum.

But while I was there I borrowed some books on Esperanto and harrassed one of my friends from church (who should have been studying!) with crazy facts about Google. Mabie one day I'll tell them to you. Or you could just read outdated back-issues of Time. Whatever.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-07-26T09:33:36Z</dcterms:modified>

Dance the Philosophy Prance

I have just decided to start giving categories another go after my ill-fated 'music' category died a slow and painful death. I may go back and add categories to those posts that obviously need it but I probably won't get to all of them. Oh well.

So today was my first day back at uni and I'm rather excited by the prospect of doing Foundations of Digital Video or whatever that subject is called. I'm not so thrilled about 'Great Ideas' a two hour stint of which I just completed. It involves me vigourously beating my brains out against supposedly fundamental philososphy. It would be great fun... if my lecturer was a little more charismatic. At the moment he seems obsessed with telling us the fundamental philosophy behind the existential nature of a bag. At least, that's what I think he was talking about. I was switched on for the first half an hour but for the rest of the time I just sat up straight but had blurry eyes. Also he keeps talking to us in different languages and then translating what he just said back into English. Matters are not helped by the fact that the lecture takes place during my normal 'down time' and finishes at 6:00pm.

What is this 'down time'? I'm glad you asked. Between the hours of 4-6pm I am sleepy, irritable and lethargic. After that I'm fine and can motor on with such hyperactivity you'd never know that it was the same person. I usually wind up around 12:00 midnight ready for a similar sort of day the next day. It's just how I work except it isn't to my advantage this semester.

*sadness*

All in all though, my subjects so far are pretty good. I'm with Vivienne for two of them and with Tom for one - plus he's going to sit in on the second one even though he's not taking that class just because he has nothing better to do. If he reniges though I no longer owe him chocolate...

Also, is anyone going into uni tomorow? I have to go in because the evil people at 'Great Ideas' thought it would be a great idea to make tutorials start from week one. Cue me going into uni for the sake of ONE HOUR! I mean, damnit, it takes me that long just to get into uni let alone going back home. These damn philosophers, always with the brains and never with the heart.

Sorry, enough with the philosophy already,I get it. But seriously, why is it that in modern societies we still don't walk under open ladders? I mean, we all know that evil spirits don't really dwell under there... don't we? Or mabie it's just a workplace health and safety issue, or, as my Communications Practice lecturer said today, "Healthplace, wealth and safety". To be honest, I think that's all it really boils down to.

I never know how to end these things properly.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-07-25T11:17:11Z</dcterms:modified>

Back to University

I, as I'm sure many of the young bloggers out there, am dreading going back to uni tomorow. But then again, many of them would have been going back today.

So what's there to say about that? Nothing much but I'll try anyway.

I guess in a way I'm looking forward to doing something again but I don't like thinking about the work I should be doing. Not that I did all that badly last semester, three credits and a distinction, but my work ethic has never truely recovered from highschool.

You'd think after all the money I'm paying them I'd work a little harder, but no. *sigh* I'll get better as I go, I know it. All I need to do is start using my diary properly again and I'll be sweet. Oh yeah, and don't write the assignments on the day they're due... actually the only time I did that last semester I got a distinction for it - my highest mark. So mabie it's a good idea after all!

Today, the last day before I have to worry about doing stuff, I spent doing absolutely nothing at all. It was nice but a bit boring I have to say. That's why this blog isn't really going anywhere, I have no stories to tell!

So now that I'm going to be doing other stuff besides sitting around not working and not doing assignments, my blogging will decrease fairly significantly but no doubt increase in quality. Wow, that was one of the longest sentances I've ever written! I'm going back to my traditional around-twice-weekly-or-thereabouts updates. I'm sure some of you will be pleased at that, easier to keep track of! Then again others will be crying floods of bitter tears... cheer up you guys, you've got better things to do.

I'm half looking forward to listening to my iPod on public transport again. I don't know why it's so enjoyable but I love it. I'd like it better if I didn't have to use those pretentious, white earplugs though. But they're so comfy with their annoying little foam coverbuds. I'm on my last pair that came with the iPod, after these die I'm finding myself some new earplugs.

Also, I booked my driving test! It's on the 10th of April... no! August (thanks Azukar). I know I'm not a bad driver per se but I can see myself freaking out and screwing it up. Especially the three-point-turn. Hopefully I can pass first time though and then I can just drive to my heart's content... and to my wallet's extent.

Oh well.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-07-25T12:30:33Z</dcterms:modified>

Well That's... um... One-Sixth of Uni Over

That is, of course, I don't do a post-graduate teaching degree, in which case I have just finished one-eighth of my university education. Yeah, about that teaching degree, do you think that my spelling/grammar is too bad to teach little munchkins how to write properly? Sure, I can do it but only if I have a spell-checker.

But that's besides the current festivities taking place in my mind. You see, I finished my last assignment last Friday and so now I'm technically on holidays. Why technically? Well because I'm supposed to submit it via FTP and it just won't work. At least, I can't get it to work. So what am I going to do? I've emailed my tutor explaining my problem and asked what I should do about it.

I haven't got a reply.

One can only assume that he actually has a life and doesn't check his staff emails during his weekends. Well good on him for that but it doesn't help me much with my problem. I'm not particularly stressed about it, I figure he's a pretty understanding guy so it'll be ok but it's no good if I don't hand it in at all. Plus it's something that I have to remember to do. I hate having to remember stuff. So now instead of having a lovely sleep in then having lunch while watching the Ellen Degeneres Show (my secret shame!) then mabie washing the dog and writing another blog entry, I'm going to be getting up early so I can spend the first half an hour handing my USB stick to my tutor in person, explaining what happened and then waste the rest of the day at the shops, a place full of really nice stuff that I can't afford to buy.

Speaking of buying stuff I decided to splurge and buy Civilisation IV so I could play it on the holidays. Only problem is that it's a DVDROM and my computer has no DVD drive. I've decided to go and buy myself a DVD drive now so I can play this game and also so I can finally use all that really useful stuff that my friends have been giving me on DVD that has been piling up at my place and theirs.

But hey, it's the holidays and it will be for the next 5 weeks. Life is good and I plan on booking myself a driving test tomorrow while I waste my precious first day. It's alright I suppose.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-07-25T12:56:47Z</dcterms:modified>

It's the end of the world!

Hey! It was the 6/6/06 the just the other day! Yeah wow, funny thing about that. I got all the way to the 7th before I'd realised the apocalipse had come and I missed it. Yes, I know. I never go to the good parties.

What did I do on that, the most fateful of days?

Well I slept in, I stuffed around, the power went out for an hour or so and then after it came on again I finished my short story about an old lady who dies. It ends well I assure you.

Mabie I should post it on here. That's why I'm at uni right now, I'm handing it in today. I wrote it for effective writing, one of my subjects.

There was nothing good on TV so I played Civilisation III that evening. I really should get Civ IV but even on sale it's $60 something and I feel guilty buying expensive things because I still owe Gran alot of money for my car.

Where was I? Oh yes, I went to bed at a semi-reasonable hour becuause I knew I was going to go into uni the next day to hand in assignments and stuff and finish some other things off.

All day I didn't look at the date, I didn't realise that THE END IS NIGH!!! er... was nigh. But in the end it wasn't nigh.

The NEXT day, on the 7th, I got to uni, realised that that was the day that I was supposed to enrol for my new subjects, freaked out and ran to the computers. I couldn't get it to work, started stressing and began contemplating deferring for the semester because I was convinced that there would be nothing left for me to do. Luckily I sent a txt to Mum telling her of my plight and she decided that it might work at her workplace. So I went there and lo and behold, it did work (but I think I was doing it incorrectly in the first place) and now I'm all enrolled. Unfortuneately I didn't get any of my stuff done I came to do so now I'm back here in a dreary daze.

Oh yeah, if you got a deranged email in your inbox last night you may want to ignore it, I wasn't under the influence of anything. Rather, I was NOT under the influence of proper bedrest. I nearly fell asleep on the bus this morning! But then again that happens very often so I wouldn't worry for me.

Unfortuneately the subjects on offer for a first year student suck so the only thing I'm really looking forward to is Foundations of Digital Video or somesuch.

Oh yeah, I never told you guys what happened when I went clubbing, something my friends are all hanging out to hear. Well you may hear it today but then again you probably won't. I don't want to spend any extra time here than I have to. I want to bugger off to Robina as soon as possible.

The uni is very serene without all those students. You just get all the people like me who have to be here to do stuff but now are just wasting time on the internet.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-07-26T14:13:36Z</dcterms:modified>

Web Project

Come and edit these pages. Edit them now!

I have this assignment (performance art) where I've put some stuff on Uncyclopedia, a parody of Wikipedia where I've written this false bio of a person loosely based on myself. I'm here to petition you all to change it and the pages that link from that page. My goal here is to see how much it changes and in what ways.

Here's the lowdown: The person's first name is Fillet and he comes from the O'Fish clan. There is a page for Fillet O'Fish and for his clan. The idea here is to kind of be funny but don't feel obliged. This is a Wiki so I wrote the first bits there and you are to change it all with better stuff or with stuff that complements it.

Fillet o' Fish is not me. However, feel free to model him on me if you want to so that he appears more realistic with more idiosycracies. Any links that are blue already have a page for them although you can change them and add more things there too. Any links in red are broken and require a page at the other end. In order to make the page just click on the link and type in the content. Any coding required is negligable but here is a tutorial that explains anything that may confuse you.

Don't get freaked out about this because nobody's going to bite your head off if you change stuff. That's the idea of the whole site. Just open up the page and click on the 'edit' tab. You don't even have to create an account (you can if you want to though) in order to change anything and everything.

Please note that the links above are to Uncyclopedia which, being a wiki, may have offensive material on it. If you get spooked at the notion of the occasional swear word (swearing is really negligable) etc then perhaps you shouldn't follow the link and help me in this assignment. I didn't put any swearing in there when I created the pages but someone else may do so (however, I doubt it). If you feel that you can take it out without ruining the joke then feel free (but also realise that the other person may put it in again).

Be funny, be creative!

Also please realise that the writing in a different colour is an integrated link. Just click on the words, I know they're not blue but that's the way it goes.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-07-26T13:56:43Z</dcterms:modified>

I'm fully sick mate

Yeah, it's just a cold but I had to call in sick to work today. It's rather strange because it's taking me so damn long to get over this thing. It started on Sunday evening in Toowoomba when I had a sore throat after the Easter Sunday evening church service. I thought it was just my throat complaining at all the singing I was doing but no. The next couple of days I got worse and worse. Yesterday I thought I was better so I went into work. Unfortuneately I discovered that I really wasn't fine at all and grossed out all my customers and generally spread the infection to the greater Mudgeeraba area.

So I called in sick this morning hoping that a day off will help me get better so I can work tomorrow and go to Kirsty's 18th. I hope I can but right now... *sigh*

So anyway, without sounding all 'woe is me' because I'll be completely over it by this Sunday, how is everyone else doing? What did you guys do over your Easter break? I have to be back at uni next Monday and I have to have done some stuff by then and I'm not sure if it's going to be done to the standard that I wanted it to be. That's partly due to my laziness and procrastination but also because I don't have Dreamweaver at home. I need that program. At least, I need to get about 20 pictures of different looking people (mostly older people in their 30s, 40s and 50s) for this project I need to do for CyberStudies. It's 10 males and 10 females I need. I'm thinking that I sould just go up and randomly ask people in a shopping centre or something but in my experience that sort of thing isn't recieved well. I think I'll ask basicly everyone at my church for their picture. They'll let me.

So that's my project for Sunday, take lots of pictures of Uniting Church attendies and edit them in Photoshop to be ready by Monday when I have to show some proof of progress. I guess I don't have to personally take the pictures so long as I have permission for their use...

Ok, here's what I'm going to do. If you like, can you email me a picture of your parents, siblings, grandparents, yourselves etc so I get a little more diversity than dressed up people from church? They don't have to be overly flattering (I'm doing a project that focuses on that 6 degrees of seperation thing so I need normal looking people). What I'm going to do is cut them out and superimpose them on some background pictures I have and then have links relating to things around them that link them to one another. The characters in the project are all made up and I don't say anything bad about the people (well, a couple, but I'll use my own parents/siblings/etc pictures for those) so you don't have to worry about the police knocking down your door and arresting your grandmother for being a drug dealer. If for some strange reason you don't have my email address and you really want to give me a picture of your great aunt Beatrice you can post a link to it or something. I really don't want to post my email addy on here because that will mean I get smam!

I guess you could post your email here as a comment to this message or something but I don't think this will be a problem because anyone actually interested in sending me a photo probably has my email anyway.

Just a thought so you can help out a sick child (me).

bye.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-08-03T12:39:48Z</dcterms:modified>

So it's Wednesday again...

...and I'm at uni. This saddens me because I have very little to do. Sure, I could do those readings that I'm behind in but I will later in the day but I just don't feel like it right now. I know that's not the best attitude to have when it comes to study because I'm never going to feel like it but I'm rather enjoying being an average student in the masses of other average students studying here. See, unlike school where everybody knew who I was ("Mr Salmond's son") and all the teachers were always checking up on me here I am nothing special. In fact, this is the first time that this has ever happened to me because I've always had Dad working wherever I was studying. I also had Mum working at my old school in Darwin for a long time so I had both my parents there.

Also now that I'm at uni I'm not the know-it-all anymore. This other guy is and he's very annoying. I'm sorry to all those people I must have irritated when I was at school. I must have been such a smart-ass.

Also another thing, you know how everyone says to get to know your lecturers? How do you do that? I've been told to go and ask them questions but mostly I have no questions to ask. Also I complain about my lecturers alot. You'd think that such clever people would be able to communicate ideas effectively. Remember all those things we were told in high-school about not reading off the PowerPoint and keeping eye-contact? None of that matters here. Not only when you give a presentation do your tutors not care if you never even look at the class, your lecturers just post their speech verbatim on the slides and read off it in this dreary monotone that resembles a vacume-cleaner. Most of them do anyway. I have this really good subject called "Youth and Society" and my lecturer for that one is really the only one that expands on what she's put on the PowerPoint. Also I just had a really good lecture for Effective Writing by a guest lecturer about writing feature articles and she was fantasic.

I think I have bad breath today. My mouth feels funny.

Well this post wasn't all that long. Hey I should post up my assignment for Effective Writing about writing personal essays for blogs. That's due tomorrow but I'm handing it in tonight after my tute because I'm working all day tomorrow at Woolies.

I was going to post some really profound things on my blog today and I've forgotten what they were. During the course of the day I may come back and post them but I probably won't remember what they were. *sigh* Oh well.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-08-03T12:48:20Z</dcterms:modified>

It's Wednesday But

Ohmygoodness its Wednesday when I have my big long break of 8 hours at uni and I'm so bored and it's only been an hour and a half. I've got stuff to do but I'm not entirely sure what it is yet until I sound it out in writing.

Here looks a good a place as any:

-Write some sort of a draft copy of my personal essay about writing personal essay's on the internet.

(Tell me, is that little upintheair comma thing that I've forgotten the name of in the right place? Should the plural of 'essay' even have an upintheair comma?)

-Get started on an oral about 'Short Story' that's due in exactly one weeks time

-Begin research on an essay I have to write for Digi Comm Tech about Wikimedia and wether it's an effective mode of information collection and communication

-Umm... eat?

I'm soo hungry right now damnit. I want sugar but I'm too poor to buy any. Well technicly I can afford it but this week I limited myself to a $20 budget to see if I could do it and its really tight. Especially since lunch costs me $5.30 or somesuch and I bought a return ticket yesterday for the train when I didn't need to. I won't be able to do it but I figure if I can get through MondayTuesdayWednesday which is my uni time then I'm doing pretty well (also because I'll be at work on Thursday earning money so I won't mind the little cash I spend on that day and on Friday I'll be at home away from any commercial temptations). Saturday and Sunday are a totally different ballgame though. I guess I'm working again on Saturday so I won't feel too bad if I buy lunch or a snack.

I'm sorry if all I'm doing is talking about food but my stomach is actually rumbling right now which I didn't think it actually did if you had breakfast (which I did, it was a good breakfast too, Sultana Bran, not some sugar-laden cavity cerial). But now I want sugar which will give me cavities anyway so I guess it all works out the same in the end. Oh, but I can't really afford the sugar. But I can. So unless I find someone interesting to talk to on MSN Messenger I'm sure I'll lose my resolve and go and buy a $3:00 packet of lollies or something, totally blowing my budget.

Oh, hey, Peri's talking to me now. He's interesting enough and will fit the bill nicely. Thanks Peri, you've saved my wallet from emptying to nothing.

Well sorry guys, a post about how bored I am and how hungry I am. I'm sure that makes riviting reading. I was going to write an existensial piece about what if the internet was a city... which I will still write but just not right now. Ooh, it was going to be so cool and then I got hungry. Too bad.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-08-03T12:57:37Z</dcterms:modified>

Very Long Blog of the Uni Fillet

I promised Jacinta that I'd blog my first day of uni for her so here it is. I wrote half of this at the uni while I was waiting around so that might explain why the tenses somethimes sway in and out of correct useage. Here we go.

Because I cannot drive (note to self: take more lessons) I had to get Dad to drop me off at the train station. This necessitated an early rise at 7:00 (which is what I used to get up at for school but never mind that). In the car to the station I sent a txt message to the local Christian radio station with my birth-date in it and the fact I was turning 18 (it's a competition, I don't go txting my birthdate around to random institutions to see how they will respond). I caught the 8:00 train and while I was waiting for said train to start moving I got a call on my mobile. It was the radio station telling me I had won an icecream cake from Cold Rock and could I please give them my name because I was supposed to include it in the txt message. Whoops. So after giving them my details everyone in the train was looking at me strangely so I helpfully informed them that I had just won a birthday cake. Everyone still looked perplexed but they stopped looking at me. I got to the correct station and waited for the bus.

The 8:30 bus was late for the second time in a row and came at 8:40. It was at this point I wished I had brought a book or an iPod with me. But don't worry! A kid that looked about 12 with a face full of pierceings treated everyone waiting for the bus to his polyphonic ringtone collection consisting entirely of rap and hip hop music! Oh joy. Half an hour of that nearly led me to beat him over the head with that phone of his but I excercised restraint in anticipation of 'adulthood' when such a thing will be expected of me.

When I arrived at the uni I bumped into Yasmin but we didn't talk really. Then I realised that I actually had no idea where my lectures were today (room-number wise) so after wrestleing with the Griffith web service for a short time I discovered the rooms I am in and went to have a scout. I now know the general area I'm supposed to be in. Then I wrote this. Tenses are actually alright.

Then it's off to my first class. CyberStudies. Which I quicly learn is a second year subject. Whoops. I quietly freak out for a bit but decide in the end it's ok, I'll just quit the course and that's that. The lecturer, Jason, let me know later that it didn't really matter. It turns out that another guy made the same mistake as me too and there are a number of people doing the course that have less knowledge than me about the programs we'll be using. It's a very open-ended subject too so that's good. Jason is a very strange person, and I mean that in the most endearing way possible but he probably wouldn't care because I think that's the sort of strangeness he goes for. Like drinking tea out of a glass beaker. You know, the ones from the science labs. I assume it was either very clean or new or only used for that purpose because those beakers can still have poisonous residue in them if they are actually used for science. I'm sure he knew that though. There's about 10 people in my class there too so there's (theoreticly) alot of help to be had too. More than IPT at Hillcrest by a long shot I would say.

Then it's a loooong treck to my next lecture to G16 for Communication & Digital Technologies which is across the other side of the campus (one of the biggest campuses in geographic area in Queensland). I freaked out again when I went into the lecture theatre what I supposed was 10 minutes late and nobody was there. It turns out I had the time wrong. I was in fact 15 minutes early. I only discovered that after double-checking the room number in the library on the computer first though. Phew. I met up with Viv and Sam at this point and did the lecture in the theatre (which was the correct one after all) and then met up with Tom afterwards who was wasting time in one of the computer labs after drawing nude ladies for three hours. Yeah he's doing an art design course. *giggle*. All the other guys in his course couldn't tell what he was so bashful about. I guess they were just lapping it up. Real nude women. Posing to be drawn. I guess it takes a woman of supreme confidence to be able to do that.

Then I caught the bus to the train station and the train to Robina and my Mum's car to home. At Robina station I bought those life-savers, musk and blackcurrent, and ate them both at once. I've decided that musk goes with everythig and makes it taste like heaven. Try it.

So that was the first day of uni. Oh, I have to set up and maintain two blogs for both my technology subjects so for the next six months Fillet will be the author of not one but THREE blogs. The other two may not be as interesting to you as this one is but I'll link them anyway. Just realise that I'm getting graded on them so that might be why I sound less casual and am talking about things like the consequences of fully intergrated technological advancements and whatever. I may talk about the benifits of blogging though which you may find worthy of note but at present the blog for that doesn't exist yet (I'm making it tomorrow).

Fillet

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-08-03T13:21:31Z</dcterms:modified>

Uni orientathingy

So Griffith expects me to show up to do this 'orientation' and I have absolutely no idea what to do. So I show up and I find out that even more people I know will be going to my campus. At the moment the count is up somewhere about six or seven people from my grade, actually make that seven or eight. So that's really cool and we've all got a little Hillcrest community to slot into when we get there. I just hope it doesn't make me to lazy in making new friends. I'm gonna have to get to know or even become friends with at least one or two people from my course specificly (majoring in Digital Video) so that when it comes to doing a group project I wont end up with a bunch of uncooperative jerks who won't let me control every little thing. Haha. As I tend to do. Just ask Sam and Vivienne, they've filmed a project with me before. Nah, I don't think I'm all that bad but I have to stop myself sometimes.

So anyway I'm going back tomorrow for some Tutorial things that I thought I had to pay for but now I know are free. You have to pay for some of them (like the note taking tutorial) but not for all of them like I first thought. So woo. Uni life. Actually I'm kind of looking forward to the lifestyle. It's looking really different from High School wich will be a bit of a relief on the old whatever High School life was causing me problems with before. It's gonna be weird not being in a Christian environment anymore though. I've already come across some culture sock. It might have had something to do with the 'Safe Sex' stall where you had to find anograms or something in the word 'erection'. I dont actually know what the game was though. I didn't hang around long though in case the girl offered me a condom or something. Also there's an underlying hostility to religion in general there I've never properly experienced before. Then again, I have been rather sheltered so that might just be it.

I won't go into it too much but it's things like the Evangelical Union stall got taken down by the Student Union because they were handing out religious material which is apparantly forbidden on campus. Also there were a few subtle jokes about chaplains in the information sessions. It was like "the Chaplains don't have the booking problems that the councellers do" (short pause) The audience sniggers at this point "no really, I know alot of the chaplains and they are very nice reliable people". It wasn't really malicious but the audience response to me was unexpected coming from a Christian school environment when that would have been out of line.

Oh well. I'll get over it. They have a really good uni bar though so thats a plus. It has a very good atmosphere in there even though I've only ever been in covertly when it's not properly running. I'm not 18 yet. Still, I'm looking forward to when I can go in there and sit and 'chill'. lol.

Not long now!

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-08-03T13:32:25Z</dcterms:modified>

Uni News

This one goes out to Jugsworthy because I think she's the only one who reads these things *leave comments you freaks!*... I'm sorry that's just my terets or however you spell it playing up. By the way, I can't spell terets because I'm dyslexic or however you spell it. By the way, I only think I have dyslexya because I have down syndrome and I only think I have down syndrome because I'm acoustic... which might explain alot!

I submitted my QTAC stuff yesterday and found out in the process that stupid University of Queensland doesn't allow deferrals which sucks because it means that I have to do my course starting next year. I wanted to defer so I could work and have some time off study but it looks like there's no rest for the wicked so off I'll go to UQ having to commute something like 1 1/2 hours a day which means that I'll probably do the course part time so I won't be going up to Brizzie every other day. Wow, that was a long sentence. I still don't know what I really want to do there, I applied for an arts degree so I can do either a communications type-thing with effective writing and film studies or I can do language studies cause I want to learn another language. Film and Writing sound so much more interesting though so I'll probably get too lazy and not do the language thing at all which is a shame.

And my computer KEEPS STUFFING UP!!!! Stupid. Piece. Of. Junk. You think with all the money you pay for them they'd work but noooooo! I'll get my revenge when I buy my own in the US and leave this retarded thing in the gutter (metaphorically speaking). I'm really enjoying this blogging thing though so I think I'll try to keep it up during my final term at school.

Speaking of which, did you know that it's my final term of school next term? It'd better be bludgy or I'll get soooo mad cause it goes for eight weeks rather than six like it did last year. Ooh, but I get Mrs Clinton back next term! Yay! Heh heh, stupid girls don't get Mrs Clinton for a teacher. How about that, we got Pamps and Clinton in one year! No wonder the top 4 or 5 in English in our year level are boys! Oh yeah and I read The Great Gatsby. My Dad was paying me out about it but it wasn't that bad. I actually found many of the authors comments on life very funny and rather satirical. I also loved the way he talked about random people. "The lady on the train perspired delicately into her white petticoat for a while before slumping into a heat-induced stupor." Sure, the movie sucked about as hard as you can suck but the book was... Ok. I give it three stars out of five. Or mabie that's just in comparison to Fly Away Peter which was sooooo increadibly bad I won't even dignify it with a rateing. Mrs Schwartz said it was a filthy godforsaken book as well although not in those words and that description might not be an accurate description of it. Heck, even the sex scene in Peter was so alluded to that you couldn't even tell he'd lost his virginity, instead it talked about how he was growing a moustache. A very important detail I'm sure.

What else is news? Oh yeah, I'm not sure if Jesh is coming to America with me or not because he took too long to get back to me so we just had to go ahead and book with out informing him. We did give him like, zero notice though so I'm not mad or anything. Also he likes going around and DOING stuff can you believe? Haha. No, my point is I'm going over there to see my sister and her family over there whereas Jesh is probably looking to do the tourist thing which I don't really have the cash for because of STUPID FREAKING NON-DEFERAL UQ... *cough*...

Also, I thought you should know that there is a removalist standing out on my street helping some girls to move in up the road. He has the biggest singlet tan I have ever seen in my life.

Soooo... I've taken a few more photos which means I'm a few steps closer to posting "Fillet Foto Folio II" on here but I'm not quite there yet.

Finally, the question remains, "What will I do with my LAST ever day of school holiadys?" If you answered 'something interesting' you are probably WRONG. If you answered 'nothing in particular' you are probably correct. If, however, you answered 'I don't know' then CONGRATULATIONS because that's what I answered too. It's nice to see we have so much in common.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-09-05T14:38:05Z</dcterms:modified>
