I've made many friends. Don't worry I won't be doing anything as silly as deleting this blog or anything (I'll still need this account to comment on all you lovely people's blogs) but I have gone and uprooted to Blogger.

Thankyou to all who spent the time reading my blog here on Live Spaces, but to be honest, the network has gotten unbelievably slow and I know it's not just my slow internet connection. Also I don't like how little you can change here. Many sad faces for Live Spaces. I hope the Live Network doesn't close down completely, though, because there is a lot of work that I've done here that I'm incredibly proud of.

Please follow me to The (new!) Fillet Skillet. I've set it up so anyone can comment there so you don't even need a Blogger account if you don't want one!

Grand opening is today so don't be shy! Add my new blog to your RSS readers!

Rohan

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2008-02-01T07:49:03Z</dcterms:modified>

Australia Day

Happy Australia Day to all you Aussies and non-Aussies alike. All over the world today, in every country, there will be all sorts of drunken people yelling "Aussie! Aussie! Aussie! Oi! Oi! Oi!" and other forms or eloquent Australian patriotism.

I find it interesting wishing people a happy Australia Day on the internet, because I know that the vast majority of people on here aren't actually Australian. Still, the Americans can get away with wishing everyone a 'Happy Thanksgiving', even though as far as I know, the only place that holiday is applicable to is the United States.

This afternoon (or 'this arvo' as I'm supposed to say on such a day as this) I'm going to go to a movie with friends. It's not a very 'Aussie' thing to do. Really we're supposed to be going out four-wheel-driving with beer and women. But hey, it snuck up on us and we didn't even organise a barbecue. I know the lambassador would be very upset with us. I don't think I'm even going to eat lamb today.

I do, however, look like a bogan - so there's that. I'm wearing black fisherman's pants and a shirt about two sizes too big for me. I also mowed the lawn this morning and my hair is like a birdsnest. Oh I assume I'll pretty myself up before I go out. It's a wet weekend this weekend (no water restrictions) so I can have as many showers as I please.

Thank you Gold Coast City Council.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2008-01-26T01:14:37Z</dcterms:modified>

Who Knew?

Apparently it was Thanksgiving yesterday. Or today.

The news is all over YouTube. This is almost as big as that video of Kevin Rudd eating his ear-wax. What was that? Seven? Ten years ago? That guy is going to ruin our country if he gets in when we all go to vote tomorrow. He'll eat up the ear-wax of our economy. He may also partake of the ear-wax of the unions.

Like, Oh Em Gee.

Oh yeah, speaking of the election, don't forget to vote whatever you do. You'll get a fine if you don't. But you already knew that didn't you?

Australia: the land of the not-quite-as-free because we are made to vote by the government we may or may not vote against. Actually I like this system - it's ironic.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2007-11-23T04:35:34Z</dcterms:modified>

Christmas List

Excuse me? Would you like to buy your favourite blogger a Christmas present? Yeah. I knew you would.

Or not. Whatever. In any case this will do as a pretty good public service announcement for people who care about getting pretty cool T-shirts.

THE TOOTHPASTE FOR DINNER SLASH NATALIE DEE SLASH MARRIED TO THE SEA STORES ARE OPEN FOR INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING UNTIL THE END OF OCTOBER!

Get me shirts now in exchange for my goodwill. I would get them myself except that I don't have a credit card to order with and the stupid Commonwealth Bank doesn't do Visa Debit cards.

"Y' can't buy a T-shirt off the internet with just an EFTPOS card son."

I want: this one and this one and this one and the Natalie Dee one that says "Did you floss today?" which you can only get at the international store now.

But above all, if you were going to get me any of these shirts, I want this one. Although any of those shirts would get exclaimed over and worn until they died the honourable death of over-use.

So you know, get my Christmas shopping out of the way early - it'll save you ringing up my Mum all secretly three days before and asking her what it is I want for Christmas.

I'm not kidding it happens every year.

Oh yeah, and I expect I would be a medium men's. Probably. I guess that's what sucks about buying stuff off the net.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2007-09-30T06:45:11Z</dcterms:modified>

Christmas 2007

You know where it'll be?

For me, I mean. I know it's Christmas everywhere on the 25th of December - that is to say except Saudi Arabia, because I'm pretty sure the Muslims aren't as hot on Jesus as the Christians are. That's right. I went there.

Well this just got figured out, so my text-blog homies get the scoop waaaaay before my vee-log chicka-dees, who probably won't find out about this until the event occurs. Unless they also read my bee-log, in which case they will know at the same time.

The 2007 Christmas will be spent... in Adelaide! Yes that's right, I'll be in the city of churches soaking up the Christmas spirit. The last time I had Christmas in Adelaide (about six or seven years ago - it was the Christmas before I arrived on the Gold Coast) it was actually freezing cold and we were sitting around the fire with jumpers on - very un-Christmassy stuff like that. Christmas is supposed to be the hottest day of they year spent around the barbie. Uh, sort of.

This is going to be brilliant. We're going to be at my aunt's place. My Mum's sister. She's the one with the son who's the only cousin of mine younger than me. He also makes me look bad because he plays the violin - er - viola for two hours every day. I have a blog. Go me.

It's far easier to be funny if you say bad stuff about things. I'd like to be funny by saying good stuff. Like that it was my idea to go to South Australia in the first place because I haven't been there since forever and my Auntie has this hella-cool house up on a mountain. And there's lots of wine. Also South Australia was the only Australian colony not founded for reason of housing convicts. It was founded so Lutheran refugees could settle somewhere safe. That's why there are a lot of German place-names in South Australia.

See? Side-splitting.

Anyway, the moral of the story is that Christmas is going to be there, I'm sending Esme by truck to Brisbane, I'm flying to Adelaide the week before Christmas and then after festivities my parents and I are driving from Adelaide to the Gold Coast (hopefully) by way of Canberra.

W00t!

Christmas
In Adelaide
The most maligned city in
Aus-tra-lia
Got top-spot on the new Aussie Monopoly board
Because the Adelaideians voted heaps and heaps
More than the Sydneysiders did

Thankyou.

Also I have now officially finished the final Harry Potter. I put in a good, solid six hours of reading and finished the last half.

I can now talk to people again. Yay me.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2007-07-29T05:32:06Z</dcterms:modified>

Long Weekend

We just had a long weekend on account of HRH Lizzy's birthday. It wasn't really her birthday, we were just pretending it was. In actual fact I think it may have been Prince Philip, her husband's, birthday. But those are all just details. The point was that I had a long weekend, and that I got to sleep in a little bit (ok, a lot).

I remember when the Queen's Birthday long weekend was the day my Mum and I would rearrange the living room. We would swap the dining table and the couches (or something like that) on that day every year. My Dad didn't like this too much because he'd had a whole year to get used to the old configuration, and then he had to get used to another one all over again.

Also on that day every year, I think about Australian Republicanism, and whether or not I think it's a good idea. I don't ever really change my mind on the issue - I like the Queen far too much. It is a shame that our Queen lives all the way over in another country, and that we don't really see her all that often, but the Governor General is always there, squirreling behind the scenes keeping the Parliament running smoothly. It's a system that I'd be sad to see go, lest we end up like America with a President that interferes with politics far too much. I think that's a fine system for the States, but I wouldn't like to see a politicised head of state in Australia. Also, think of all that extra money we would have to spend on presidential elections! No, I'm quite happy with the way things are, and I like celebrating Her Majesty's birthday with a long weekend, rather than having a holiday commemorating the day we disposed with the Monarch.

Similarly, though, I squirm inwardly at the thought of seeing Prince Charles's face on our coins. He broke all the rules you know. Also, he is ugly. Could the Australian Public's apparent loyalty to the Crown in fact be loyalty to Elizabeth? I've said it before, but I think perhaps we would wait around uncomfortably for Charles to die or abdicate in favor of William, who I think is much more kingly material. Also, his mother was Dianna, and we all (apparently) love Dianna. Or was her name spelled with only one 'n'?

"Died In A Nasty Accident" - Diana.

Or perhaps the primary school memory-thing is wrong, and my initial double-n impulse is correct. It doesn't actually matter, except that William would make a pretty good king. That assumption is based on that I never really hear anything about him, so if he doesn't make good material for the gossip magazines, then he would make a good Monarch. I believe that the ability to be a good Monarch is inversely proportional to the amount you are talked about in Women's Day. You notice how little Elizabeth is talked about in those trash-mags? I rest my case.

Harry, on the other hand, gets talked about all the time. Harry is a twerp. Let's not talk about Harry.

As a side note, BBC.com reckons that I'll never get fat.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2007-06-12T05:20:42Z</dcterms:modified>

Wee-Woo-Scooble-Dee-Happy-Face-Glad!

This is a special, happy day! This day will go down in my life as being very, very special!

I have just found out that my car is all fixed up and I can pick it up tomorrow! Yay! Esme and I are soon to be reunited again! This is the sort of day that requires an exclamation mark at the end of every sentence!

Exclamation mark!

Celebrate-happy-mark-day-happy-woo!

Fillet

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2007-03-26T06:57:02Z</dcterms:modified>

Birthday Party

This is my birthday cake that I had for my 19th birthday party last Sunday. I shared a party like I used to with my friend Jesh, and we had it at the Lakes Resort waterslide like we did once before years ago. Above is my cake, looking a little gay but also highly delicious. I have decided that Nerds (the pink and purple things on the cake) go with everything just like musk flavored things and champagne. One day I will have a big musk/nerds/champagne party where everybody eats musk and nerds and drinks champagne. It will be the best party ever.

I'm sorry, this picture just won't centre justify.

That's Jesh and I blowing out our candles. His cake was the same as mine except his had peanut M&Ms on it. It was a good day, and we all got friction burns from the water slide so we all had a good time complaining about our various burns to one another. James (one of our friends that came along) was actually bleeding though, so I guess he won. Tulip, Cheesewheel, Windmill.

I haven't bothered to mention the adventure we went on on the way to the Lakes Resort; mostly because I don't particularly want to remember it. I was driving you see, and I didn't know the way. So instead of stopping at Berry Springs like I was supposed to, I missed the sign and ended up going all the way to Bachelor before we realised we had gone too far, and then we went on to Adelaide River to get petrol because we had nearly run out. It was all of our faults becasue we weren't looking out properly for the signs. So what was supposed to be a half-an-hour drive turned into a two-and-a-half-hour drive. I was a very grumpy boy when we got to our party and it was all very embarrasing that we were so late. Our families had even sent out search parties for us thinking we had crashed. But in the end a couple of slides down the waterslide fixed me right up and I was happy again.

So now I am officially 19, two weeks after my actual birthday. I intend to enjoy my last teenage year as much as I can. I'm hoping to start YouTubing this year but we'll see how we go on that one. Charles Darwin University doesn't make you pay for your internet usage, you only get asked why you're using so much if you use too much. So I think I can get away with uploading a video clip once a week. I need a camera first though, I'll keep you all posted on that front. No doubt the money I got on my birthday will help towards that.

This is the tale of New Year's Eve/Day, where 2006 turned into 2007. In the picture above there is Clifford, my dog; me; Tom, my friend; Ellen, my other friend; Hendra, my weird Asian friend; and Jacinta, my 'I wish I was Emo' friend. Missing from this picture is Ellen's cousin from New Zealand who's name is 'Linny' or 'Linnie' or something because she actually took the photo.

Yes, this was the night I wrote THIS NOTORIOUS ENTRY. Azukar was right, I was slightly inberated at the time of writing that one, but really, I wasn't that bad. And I'll prove it to you:

See, while Linnie (oh look, there she is!) is looking slightly worse for wear, I'm busy hitting - what is that? - Water! Yay water! I'm enjoying my alcohol, but once I get to a certain level, I need to hit the water. Actually, if my memory serves me correctly (which I am sure it does) this was taken not long after I wrote that blog entry predicting the future. So there you go.

You may have noticed that I'm trying pretty hard to convince you guys that I wasn't drunk drunk drunk on that night and you might think that I'm being a little paranoid about it. Let me tell you the story why:

When I was in Yirrkala, I was going through all the photos that Jacinta gave me before I left. I was staying with Jenny and David (I'll introduce you to them soon) who are an older, conservative sort of couple and just as I got up to the New Year's picutres they came around to look at my screen and said "What are you looking at?" It wasn't a repremand or anything, they were just being interested in what I was doing. But when they saw pictures such as the one just below, they were rather shocked with me and got the wrong idea I think.

Also, the 'Swear Scrabble' didn't help matters. I've got a picture of that up in the album, but I won't put it here just in case of sensitive eyes.

It was a pretty good night, which I will remember fondly as the New Years before I went away to Darwin. The morning after Ellen and Linnie went to Wet 'n Wild, a water park. I just bummed around the house all day and generally cleaned up after the Pinata which crapped lollies everywhere after we bashed it in with a broom handle (the broom handle then broke). Nobody liked those lollies because they were the crappy ones you buy from the $2 shops. I don't know about the others, but I managed to avoid a hangover (come to think of it, I've never had a hangover in my life) so I was suffering more from a lack of sleep than anything else.

By the way, Ellen and Linnie are the best people to have over at a party ever. See that bag on the floor? Ellen and Linnie cleaned up about 80% of the mess we'd made. It was a good time had by all. And there was lots of Singstar.

Fillet

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2007-03-14T03:52:24Z</dcterms:modified>

It's My Fully Sick Birthday!

I know I'd be a real A-hole if I was one of those guys who walks around telling everyone it's his birthday today - but hey, it's my birthday, I can do whatever the hell I want.

I'm now a full 19 years old. My 18th year gave me a right old send off in the form of a stomach bug which caused vomiting and runny guts. Ever wonder why I didn't do what I said I'd do in my last post? It wasn't actually because I'm lazy, I was actually glued to the toilet for two days. I have a medical certificate to prove it.

I'm actually having fun at work right now enjoying the fact that other people don't know it's my birthday because they would feel really dumb that they didn't know, even though they have no reason to know. Like:

Me: "Oh yeah it's my birthday today"

Them: "Oh really?... Really?"

Me: "Yeah"

Them: "...Happy birthday!"

Me: *wicked smile*

That is, unless they actually all do know it's my birthday and they're just hiding it from me so they can make me feel dumb with a surprise cake or something. But I'm not hanging out for it.

I'm not sure if I'm going out to dinner tonight or not, if I do I'll try and eat crocodile again if they have it. If I don't, I'm going out to dinner with my parents at Easter time. Did I tell you guys that my parents are coming up to visit me at Easter time? They are, I guess they can't bear to see their youngest leave the nest.

It's also Jesh's birthday on the 8th, and another friend of our's on the 7th. We are busy birthday uh... bogans.

It'll do.

So far today I've gotten quite a lot of gift vouchers (which I love) so I'll be a happy little shopper for the next few weeks I reckon.

All that stuff I said I'd do last week, I'll do this week, on the same days!

Also, more comics will come in the next few weeks! Ooooh excitement!

Fillet

UPDATE!!! - The world does not work like Family Guy! I had told one of the girls last week when my birthday was (because she wanted to know my star-sign for some reason) and she remembered. I walked into the kitchenette and she was there and she cheerily said happy birthday and then everyone else said 'Yes, happy birthday Rohan' and that was the end of it. I did not smile wickedly.

UPDATE UPDATE!!! - There even turned out to be a cake. It was made of lamingtons. So I guess they showed me. *blushes and smiles*

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2007-03-05T05:21:10Z</dcterms:modified>

So Now Its Boxing Day

Well it seems, with the passing of Christmas, the festive insanity has finally left us (after hanging around since October now). Unfortunately, the regular insanity has come back into full swing - only this time it's like super insanity because everyone is at the Boxing Day sales.

Also there are a whole load of movies opening here today. After Lord of the Rings it's become trendy to release your new movie on Boxing Day even if it's been out in the States for over two months now. As a result, we are getting movies coming out like Happy Feet and The Queen. I think movie producers are a bit deluded, thinking that if they release the movie on Boxing Day it means it's a good movie. Or that if they don't release it on Boxing Day then people won't think it is a good movie. I'd just rather get my movies at around the same time as the Americans, so that I don't have the unfortunate situation again of having just seen a movie in Australia, only to find out that it's been out on DVD in the U.S for two weeks now!

Australia really does get the short straw when it comes to these things.

But anyway, why am I talking about that? Well I got invited to see Happy Feet today, and I went to Pac Fair like I was told, only to find all surrounding roads in total gridlock! Also, there was a bazillion police driving around so I couldn't whip out my mobile and call my friends and tell them I was going to be late. Eventually I found a spot with no police so as I sat in traffic I called my friends and told them I wouldn't get there in time. Then I spend another eternity trying to get out of that place! All up, it was a good wasted 45 minutes at least. And I still haven't seen Happy Feet.

But how was Christmas? Well it was really good. I DID get my Lemon, Lime and Bitters on Christmas Eve so that was nice. I ALSO got my Champagne by the pool. And as it turned out, I didn't have to screw the weather after all. It seemed that Summer had heared my winging and put it on full blast right on Christmas day, so we were all hanging out for some water to swim in. As we were in the pool it started to cool down and began to look a little bit cloudy but we didn't really pay much attention. We were all determined to do the pool thing. Eventually it did start raining, but we had left just before that... because we ran out of Champagne ^_^

I stayed at my sister's place on Christmas Eve and Christmas day, but we spend the day actually at my cousins' (they have a really good view from their apartment, it's right in the middle of Brisbane City). There were presents and LOTS of food. I'm not sure we even scratched the surface of it all. There was also lots of Dance music, which I enjoy.

Unfortuneately, it's another case of "the photos are coming later" becuase, again, I do not have a camera. So yeah, the photos are coming later as I scab them off my other relatives. (Maz! Can I have all of the photo's off Dick's camera? Please?)

I was going to post what gifts I gave and what gifts I received but I wasn't sure if that was bad form or not, putting that sort of thing on the internet. So I won't do that.

And today my sister and brother-in-law went off on a plane to Melbourne so I drove the car all the way back down to the Gold Coast in the rain. It was ok, I had my iPod going. But then the Pacific Fair incident happened and I got put in a bad mood.

Despite all that, now I'm home and Clifford is very pleased to see me! Or at least he was, now he's just sleeping like he would have been doing all weekend. But I'm sure, somewhere in the thick head of his, he is sleeping sounder because I am at home with him. And he knows that there is food coming for sure tonight.

So to all the people in the Western Hemisphere who haven't quite finished with Christmas yet, Merry Christmas to you. Our Christmas was lovely.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-12-26T03:35:19Z</dcterms:modified>

Merry Christmas Eve Eve!

As per title, it is Christmas Eve Eve today. I told that to a customer at work and she payed me out so bad.

Fillet: "Yes, it's Christmas Eve Eve today!"

Lady: "Um... so it is."

Fillet: "Haha, I like to drag Christmas out as long as possible"

Lady: "Not me! I just want it to be over! But I guess little kids like to make the most out of Christmas as they can"

Fillet: "Mmmm"

Lady: "Do you still believe in Santa?"

Fillet: "Oh... no"

Lady: "Well I hate to break it to you but the Easter Bunny isn't real either"

What a cruel lady. Didn't The Santa Clause teach you anything? I bet you never had children.

I'm sure she thought she was just being funny but that was actually a really harsh thing to say. I was only joking about the Christmas Eve Eve thing and streching Christmas out as long as possible (although, admitedly, we have drawn it out rather long. As in... a month...) So yeah, no present from Santa for you Ms Lady, you're getting a big ol' lump of coal this year!

Such a cruel lady.

In other news, I'm going to be away from the internet (OHMIGOSH!) for a whole two days. Maybe three. I'm going up to Brisbane to spend Christmas with my sister and cousins and my uncle, reason being my parents are down in Melbourne for Christmas this year. By all accounts it's set to rain in Brisbane this Christmas (NOOOOOOO!) so I don't know how my plans for sitting by a pool drinking Champagne are going to work out. Rain on Christmas is just so wrong, it goes against everything I believe in.

Merry Christmas

Well there is one thing that the rain can't ruin, and that's Lemon, Lime and Bitters. Normally my uncle buys a whole stack of that stuff and we sit around and drink it on Christmas Eve. I hope that we do that again this year. In fact there are a number of things that remind me of Christmas, and they are not the normal Christmassy sorts of things. I think I will make a list of the things that remind me of Christmas.

1. Lemon, Lime and Bitters

2. Lychees

3. Cockroach poo smell

4. Champagne

5. Barbeques

6. Shaved Cold Meats

7. Salads

8. Boules

9. Watermelon

10 Ok, ok, presents.

You are not supposed to know why these things remind me of Christmas. (Hint: I live in the Southern Hemisphere)

So tomorow I'll be off to Church by 9:00 and then after that (It'll finish by 10:00 but I'll probably stay behind until at least 10:30) I go back home, feed the dog again, drive to some people's house (they are looking after the dog while I'm away), pick up the person who is looking after my car, getting on the train, going to my sister's place, going to my cousin's place and then after that I don't know!

The theory goes that the dog can wee and poo on the verandah while I'm away, and the people who I'm leaving my car with will come out on Christmas Day and feed him and take him out to wee and poo on the lawn. I feel sorry for poor Clifford, but dogs aren't allowed in either my sister's place or my cousin's. Also, they are not allowed on the train. He won't actually be on his own on any day, I leave Christmas Eve, feed him etc, the other people visit on Christmas Day, feed him etc, and I come back on Boxing Day, feed him etc. So really it's all cool and you guys don't have to get all animal millitant on me and start calling the RSPCA.

You know what I just decided? I think I will go for a swim even if it is raining. Screw you, weather.

Fillet

P.S! My good Costa Rican friend Jos has just sent me a link full of Spanish Christmas joy! It is about three eggs, Christmas dinner and tequila. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. (I like the egg in the blue clothes). Find it HERE!!!11!1onelventy!!1one

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-12-23T13:29:10Z</dcterms:modified>

Christmas... In November

Well you may have noticed that I haven't updated very much lately. It's because I've been in the apartments with my family taking part in all the frivolity. It's been pretty fun and I think there are some pictures. If there are I'll put them up here in the album for you all to see.

Last night we had some Thai food in what is recognised as the best themed restraunt in Australia in 2005. Shang Mai Thai (sp?) is the best you can get. EVER! So if you have the opportunity to do so, eat there. You will not be dissapointed.

The apartment is pretty awesome. The one I'm staying in is straight out of the Seventies. There is a fully mirrored wall in every room and (fake?) marble on every surface. It's on the top floor of a place called 19th Avenue on the Beach. My sister and her husband and the two little monsters are staying in another apartment in the same complex. It also has many mirrors. I don't get it but all in all it's pretty cool. Unfortunately there is not really any internet access there so I'm sorry about not updating very much.

But that's not the point of this post. It's Christmas today! I mean, the kind of Christmas that occurs in November. It's a pretty awesome time. We're all sitting around in the little paper hats you get from the Christmas crackers telling each other those crappy little pun jokes and throwing the little plastic cracker toys at one another. We had a secret Santa going on and I got a new T-shirt but couldn't pick who gave it to me. In the end it turned out my cousin Lara gave it to me. It's a pretty awesome shirt and I need more clothes so it worked out pretty well for me ^_^ I got Dan (my brother-in-law) one of those little things you hang up and put your keys on. For want of a better word I'll call it a keyboard (in the same tradition as a cupboard). It's made out of Australian ironbark and has an old Aussie Penny inlaid into the wood. Pretty cool and I think he liked it too!

We got a picture of everyone there and I was going to post it here. Unfortunately I realised just then that it's on my cousin's boyfriend's camera and that he doesn't have the right connection for this computer so I'm going to have to get him to email it to me. But for now, I give you this: IOU one family picture of Christmas in November.

And yes, Jacinta. This is a little bit of a special blog. I am having more trouble than normal in touch-typing. But not too much trouble. I wrote that 'comic' just a few minutes ago so my handwriting (at least, when it comes to writing with a mouse) is all right.

Some other sad news about my Grandmother though, we got a call just before that she's not in a good way at all so my Mum is over there right now. I don't think she's going to last too much longer :(

But for now everything is going well with everything else. And rest-assured, during my hiatus in blogging I've not stopped coming up with ideas. I have a nice, long back-catalogue now that I'm going to flesh out and post over the coming days. I had to type them into my phone though because there was no paper or pens in the apartments. It nearly drove me mental!

So merry Christmas everybody! And know that you now only have a month to go until Christmas on Christmas so get shopping!

Goodbike~!

Fillet

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-11-26T11:06:46Z</dcterms:modified>

Remember Remember

So it's the fifth of November today. That's pretty cool.

Anyone fancy blowing up the houses of parliament?

...

...

...

Ok, ok. Stupid censor-bots (I know they exist). I'm not actually looking to blow up the houses of parliament *rolls eyes*. Duh.

Still, there was a guy who graffitied (correct english: 'left a graffito') in the toilets at my work the following ominous... er... graffiti mark *cough*graffito*cough*:

Needless to say, I'm completely expecting Woolworths Mudgeeraba to explode tonight. I reeeeeealy wouldn't want to be working there tonight! Oh wait, it's Sunday, nobody's going to be working there tonight. That's probably a good thing. *nods sagely*

If you have no idea what I'm talking about I'm going to order you into a video store right now and command you to rent V for Vendetta. Either that or do some research into Guy Fawkes Day. *sigh*. Fine fine, here you go.

So if I were living in the United Kingdom right now I'd be busy burning effegies of villainous Catholics. Those Catholics. So villainous.

And yeah. So when the secret services come and investigate my jestivities (not a typo. I was trying to be clever but now look where that got me) you must all tell the unthinking bureaucracy that I am not the one responsible for the extermination of the Woolworths in Mudgeeraba Shopping Village (that was Coles' doing), nor am I responsible to whatever may or may not occur to the houses of parliament. I'm just, like, joking ok? There is no seditious intent here mmmkay? MMMKAY?!?

Freaking sedition laws. Can't even make jokes about blowing up parliament without having to ruin them. 'Welcome to 1984' indeed Herman. Stupid laws curtailing my black humour... I mean, dark... I mean, indigenous humour. And damn you political correctness. You are the worst ever. Limit my freedoms will you?!? Well I'll show you freedoms! Freedom! Forever!

Note to government officials: Does not depict actual events. Thankyou for not arresting my arse... no, ass. No, arse.

Fillet

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-11-26T11:08:41Z</dcterms:modified>

FREEDOM!

One week of holidays coming right up sir! Would you like to log onto MySpace and leave a bunch of crazy crap in people's comments sections? Very good sir. And would you like to start adding pictures to your blog entries? Excellent. I'll have that all organised for you shortly.

Also, would you like that picture all nice and centred sir? You would? Well I’m sorry I can’t do that because of annoying Live Spaces.

Oh wait, I think I fixed it sir, now how about a tip for my brilliance? What's that? You don't believe in tipping? Who do you think you are?!? A gangster from Reservoir Dogs? Get real. Nobody can be that gangster, not even you. You owe me a tip. I fixed your blog. You can pay me in chocolate.

(mercilessly sporked from Order of the Stick)

But anyway, the point of this entry is "FREEDOM!" for a week at least anyway. Also, I have to do an assignment in that week. But it's "FREEDOM!" none the less.

I have a week off uni you see, which is great. I think I need the rest because I'm stuffed. After the holiday I have four weeks of uni left and then two weeks where any of my three exams could fall. Halfway through those two weeks my sister, brother-in-law and my two nephews come from America for my brother's wedding. Then my brother gets married and we have a party.

But that's besides the point. The point is that I have a week holiday now. I'm working on Monday evening and Saturday afternoon but other than that I'm free. Wanna do stuff? Call me.

I am enjoying not having to go to university!

I like movies!

I do not like assignments!

I do not hate assignments on movies as much as I hate regular assignments!

Reading books is fun again!

Reading university readings for my subjects will never be fun!

This is my life for the next week!

Full of exclaimation marks!

Fillet.

P.S. Remember those blog entries that I told you I was working on? I haven't forgotten about them, they are just on my other computer. Birthdays in my family (well, really, the Davey family, to whom I am related) go for at least, at least, three days. That is, if they don't go a week. My cousin Lara came up with it. It is an awesome rule.

So anyway, these week-long birthdays can no longer be called so-and-so's birthday anymore because they take place on and around the actual birthday. So then... it's more like a festival... right? And as we all know, festivals need a name. So instead of calling it so-and-so’s Birthday it turns into so-and-so’s nickname fest.

So for my aunt Marilyn, we call her birthday celebration Mazfest. For my cousin Samantha it's the Samfest. For me it was the Rofest (although I tried to get Filletfest to catch on… no dice). But then there's uncle Richard to contend with. We all call him Dick because that's the nickname for Richard. But then, for his birthday, we all end up going to Dickfest. Cue a truckload of hits on my site from Google or that accursed baidu.com of people looking for some real Dickfest that takes place somewhere in Switzerland. Welcome to my site. I hope you are not disappointed by the lack of naked people here.

But how was Dickfest? It was really great actually. Dickfest was at Byron Bay in some units that my uncle rented for his 60th birthday. My sister and my brother-in-law came. My cousins Sam, Lara and Josh came. Sam and Lara’s boyfriends came. My auntie Maz, uncle Ross and Ross’ wife Marcia came. Mum and Dad came and so did Gran. Some of these people I hadn’t seen for over a year so I got to catch up with them. Also, because it’s Dick and Maz, there was lots of good food, nibbleies and champagne. Some of the time we went to look around Byron, other times we just sat around the apartments and lazed around talking utter rubbish.

All in all, good times – but made even better with the stories of embarrassment we could tell one another about the social strife we all got ourselves into after telling people (or them finding out) that we were all going to such a dubiously named event.

In my diary there is a whole weekend cordoned off for my attendance at Dickfest. My cousin's boyfriend put on his calendar at work that he was attending Dickfest and later on found out that his calender was accessible over the network of the entire lawfirm. My sister's workgroup for uni saw her conferring with people over the internet about something called Dickfest. And when I'm talking to Mum about dates for things people on the bus overheard me asking when Dickfest was on.

So that is why I wasn’t online all weekend. I was at Dickfest.

Any questions?

Seeing as my hyperlinking button isn't working I'll just give you the URL:

http://www.abc.net.au/atthemovies/review/EP28.htm

Can you see it? The wonderful, beautiful thing? Look closely... at the stars...

They agreed on every single film! I mean, what the hell? David and Margaret are never supposed to completely agree on anything! If this continues they'll be outsing one or the other and they'll be getting that horrid guy who killed the SBS The Movie Show with his horridness in. Why? Just so he'll disagree!

He was really horrid you know.

Here's the story:

Today, after driving around for an hour, I went in to have my test done. It was all going swimmingly... for ten minutes. I didn't loose a single point. But then I tried to do a paralel park and hit the kerb, so I failed instantly. Sure, I was at slightly more than a 45 degree angle when I was backing up (the tester said it was around 50) but may I also say that it was on a bend in the road? Well it was.

You could say that I'm angry and frustrated. Now I have to wait for the next free session to come along plus pay for the test and for the use of the driving instructor's vehicle and for another lesson (or two) so that I don't hit the kerb again. Don't ask about using the instructor's car, it's a long story that has a very weak ending.

And what's worse, my friend from Brisbane who was taking his test on the same day passed. Now I am officially the last person to get their licence.

So I'm sorry to dissapoint you Joel, those party hats will have to stay in the cupboards for now.

Fillet.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-11-26T11:22:01Z</dcterms:modified>

Ellen's Amazing Race

Well I promised it and here it is, the insider's view of that race. Yes, that's the one, THAT race.

Well it all started, if you go back to the real begining, with MY birthday and the present that my friends bestowed upon me. I believe I wrote about it on this very blog. When I find the direct link I'll link it for you.

But if you recall, it was very strange and it set this precedent that we've been trying to break ever since. For my friend Sam's birthday we gave her a maniquin dressed in streamers with a birthday card stuck to it's face. And for Ellen's big bash Jacinta and I had a little council at the university to figure out what we should do that would trump everything. A few hours later after considering many options we decided to do a parody of The Amazing Race only our's wouldn't be just any Amazing Race, it would be Ellen's Amazing Race.

On Ellen's actual birthday we just gave her a shoebox full of seemingly random objects which were actually clues to the places we were going to go. We also gave her a clue congratulating her on being 18 and also included $60 to pay for the stuff we were going to make her do. We were all too busy to actually do the race then and there so we waited for a month or so for the uni holidays. Then the fateful day came and it was time. Ellen was almost busting with excitement and curiosity. One thing I've learned about her is that she can't take not knowing about stuff.

The first clue we sent her back to our old highschool. It was fantastic. Earlier in the day I'd organised with our old Business teacher to take the clue so that she could give Ellen the clue. We stormed the school and made quite a scene, there were about 6 of us in total. All the teachers were looking suitably confused that we were brandishing a video camera and yodelling about clues all the time. Mrs Leo, the business teacher, made some small talk with us and then we all stormed out again on our way to 17th and 19th avenue. We were going to make her run from one to the other while pondering why there was no 18th avenue but it was pouring rain and we felt sorry for her.

So instead of making her run from 17th to 19th we just ditched her at a traffic light we were stopped at and made her run to the service station nearby. Come to think of it it was probably the same distance but it was funny nonetheless. Ellen was drenched. Oh well. Off to the public swimming pool.

Vivienne had a car accident. A guy backed into her in the carpark but it was all his fault so her insurance would cover it. In the meantime we managed to get Ellen into the pool for free because she wasn't actually going to swim. Instead she donned some outlandishly childish swimming goggles and pretend swam around the edge of the pool where swimming lessons were taking place in front of all the little kiddies. Then we were off to the casino where Ellen was set to gamble away her present money.

We arrived and the security guards looked at us all suspiciously and asked for our ID. He then told Vivienne to take of her tea-cozy hat she had on despite the fact that girls ARE in fact allowed to wear hats inside. We went to a 1c machiene and Ellen got set to gamble away one whole dollar. She won 10c but then gambled that away too. Greedy girl. The pensioners who make it their business to pokey their pension cheques were staring daggers at us young ones despite the fact there were only three of us compared to their dozens. We ignored them, we weren't making that much noise at all.

Up to this point we had been doing pretty ordinary things. But her next clue sent her to the tallest residential building in the world (as of right now, there are currently a number of taller ones being built). We sent her up, up and away with the video camera and wouldn't you know it? It died. *sigh* What a shame. She had a blast up there, she went up alone, and we on ground level raided the souvenier shop and marveled at the extraordinary prices of the crap in the store. We talked to the girl behind the counter, she was really nice and secretly purchased a postcard that we could all sign for Ellen at the end of the race. I also found a mini etch-a-sketch magna-draw thing where you put a magnet pen up to the screen and little iron filings make a line. I din't buy it but I was feeling subversive so without telling anybody I wrote the words 'Honourable Delinquent' on the screen and didn't erase them. I'm such a rebel.

We were running out of time now so we all ran as fast as we could through the pouring rain towards the cars. One was closer than the other so we all pilied into it like so many clowns in a Veedub Beetle. We drove to the second car and by this time Ellen started to make very accurate guesses as to where we would end up at the end. So we did what any friend would do. We lied to her face. She'll never anticipate us again.

We skipped the next clue which involved her going to the uni and reading (persumably) sexually explicit poetry from the uni magazine Getamungstit out loud in public. Instead we sent her straight to the bottle shop to buy a shot of whatever she wanted. First we went to a bar next to this bottle shop to see if they had anything. In my (apparant) tradition of writing my conversations in my blogs I'll transcribe the conversation between us (Sam, Ellen and myself) and the bar girl.

BG: Hi there

Us: Hi, it's our friend's 18th so we were wondering what the most appropriate shot you guys would have for her?

BG: (Rudely) I'm gonna have to see some ID first ladies (totally ignoring the fact that I'm obviously male)

Ellen: Here you go (BG takes a look)

BG: We don't serve shots here, we don't have the licence to do that

Sam: Then why didn't you just tell us that in the first place?

BG: *shrugs and walks away*

So we went to the bottle shop next door and we got the same old ID story. We each flashed our ID and there was a general kerfuffel about who the shot was actually for and whether they were actually 18 or not. It was very frustrating when we were already running behind schedule. Finally Ellen bought a shot of Balieys and drank it outside where she then recieved her next clue. Where do we, her friends that made her run through the rain and look stupid, send her for the grand finale? Why, the Gold Class cinemas of course.

Really this part should be a blog entry in itself but I won't. Long story short it was just brilliant. If I wan't so poor it would be the only way I would go to the cinema. We saw Click, the latest Adam Sandler film. It was actaully alot better than I thought it was going to be and actually had a serious side. Included in the price of the ticket ($35) we got unlimited drinks and popcorn and also either an alcoholic drink or coffee/hot chocolate and cake. Plus the seats are reclining chairs.

After that we all decided to go home even though it was really quite early. It took a bit of organising but it was totally worth it. Now everyone brace themselves for my post on the three dreams I've had recently. They are freaky affairs involving various people ranging from the Queen to one of my friends. Strange stuff.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-11-26T11:24:38Z</dcterms:modified>

World Cup Woes

Oh no! We lost to Brazil! But honestly tell me, who realisticly thought we would win?

I'm not deriding our Socc... er.. Football team now, I hear they're really very good. And we did beat Argentina that one time. Oh yeah, and Japan. Sweet.

See I actually really enjoy watching Soccer *sigh* Football because there's so much finesse involved. While Rugby is fine when you feel like watching raging bulls crash into one another (which, admitadly is sometimes) Soc-Football...

Ok stuff it. It's Soccer for now OK? That's just what I call it! I'm sorry to all the purists out there who know it's really called Football but I just can't do that right now. I want to be one of you, I really do but I just can't alright?

So anyway, about that Soccer being enjoyable it really is. I don't care what people say about having low scores because that argument just doesn't make any sense. So with Soccer you only score one point for a goal. That makes sense right? One goal=one point. But with all codes of Football (I'm talking the one with that egg-shaped ball now) you score multiple points for one 'goal'. What the duce? Now I realise that in most codes that only happens if you actually get it over the line or through the middle posts and that if you get either side of the middle posts you DO actually only get one point but I'm sure you understand where I'm coming from.

However, it IS a problem when teams draw all the time. I want a decisive yes/no win/loose scenario not some 'oh they both played well' sort of thing. I think, 'I've just spent 2 hours of my life watching this stupid game and nobody scored AT ALL?'. Then I start to weep. There's nothing anyone can do about it short of playing extra time but then a game could go for ages. If they actually fiddled with the game mechanics it would just stop being Soccer and that would be even worse. Fortuneately at least most of the time somebody scores at the higher levels of the competition so it's not so much of a problem. Except when they're both just too good for each other and then it's back to square one again.

The upshot of all this Soccer madness is that people are actually watching SBS again. Oh yeah, there's that whole national unifying factor there as well that people keep talking about but that's beside the point. SBS, or Sex Before Soccer as it is affectionately known has always been the underdog of the television ratings competition, even more so than the ABC. Then sometimes they come up with a winner, like securing the rights to Mythbusters but then inevidably one of those big chanels gets it's claws into it in some roundabout way. Like Chanel 7 putting clips of Mythbusters into that show Beyond Tomorrow. Yeah, Beyond is a great show but stop stealing Mythbusters stuff! You edit it and take all the best bits out! It's like renting out a Chuck Norris film and editing out all the violence. What do you have left?

(Father forgive me for I have sinned. I have mentioned Chuck Norris, something I had vowed never to mention on my blog. Now what's going to happen? Something awful no doubt. I don't really want to mention what I know is about to happen concerning those shamefully funny jokes about him lest it actually transpire. Let's just say that I will no doubt regret that off-the-cuff metaphor).

So what were we talking about again? Soccer? Oh good I like Soccer. The best bit about being on holidays is that I may actually watch our game against Croatia when it comes on. Assuming that I'm not working the next day of course. That's the problem with Soccer, it's always played in Europe so the time translates to the most rediculous hour here. I just can't justify staying up until 4 in the morning when I have to do stuff the next day. Damnit! Why can't they hold the World Cup here? What would be bad about that though is all the Soccer players that would invade our most precious land. Stick them all on Naru I say. Leave us be you poncy little men and let us watch our Soccer in peace.

What I would love to see is our Soccer players being as beefed up as our Footy players. But that can never happen because all our Soccer players live in England. Too bad.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-11-26T11:57:16Z</dcterms:modified>

'Appy Birthday Yer Majesty

Yes, today is her majesty the Queen Elizabeth's birthday and now seems like an appropriate time as ever to announce that I'm actually pretty fond of the old bird. Call me Unaustralian or call me a Monarchist but I'm actually a supporter of staying a Constitutional Monarchy. I think it preserves the sense of history about this place. *shrugs*

So I watched this program about the Queen turning 80 last night and I never realised exactly how much work she acctually puts into the whole Monarch business. You know she reads and signs up to three boxes of official documents every day? Also she's never, NEVER missed a day of work no matter where she is or what she's doing. I think that's quite amazing considering.

I wonder what will happen when she dies? The polls say that that is when Australia will turn Republic just because Charles is so unpopular over here. His son William, though, is very popular so mabie we'll just sit around uncomfortably for Charles to kark it just so we can get to his jucy spawn.

Anyway, thanks, Your Majesty, for being born, because now I have this holiday. Unfortuneately I need to study during said holiday but thanks all the same.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-11-26T11:25:40Z</dcterms:modified>

The difinitive guide to clubbing a la Fillet

I bet that perks your intrest...

So how was the clubbing experience? Well after mulling it over like a fine wine I've decided that it was generally enjoyable but... who the hell has the time, energy and money to do it as often as people do?

Also, the clubs I went to just didn't play enough techno music. What a shame. Mabie I should attend a 'rave' style club next time although for me, without the ecstacy.

Actually in all seriousness, if you don't take the ecstasy I hear that raves are the safest parties to go to because nobody there drinks alcohol.

But that's besides the point.

The actual club scene is really fun at the start... you know, before 1:30 or so. After that all the urine on the toilet floors starts to get you down. Also the Beer Garden is a dirty, dirty place. Don't go there. Even though it's free admission. It's not a club, it's a bar (of sorts) but to be honest it's just really crowded (in the bad way) and full of cigarette smoke in the toilets. I think I developed a cancer just from poking my nose around the door.

Melbas is actually pretty good even though most of my friends hate the place. I actually thought it was the best out of the three places we went that night. The Shack is fine but in the end I just couldn't handle it. It was a combination of things, the music wasn't particularly good, it was really uber loud (not something I usually have a problem with but... you know) and after a while the cigarette smoke buildup became intolerable (although this problem is common to all clubs after a while). The dancefloor may have been better than Melbas though, it has this raised section that's pretty cool.

But to be honest with you, I have no idea what I'm talking about. I'll never be a party animal although my experience with clubs hasn't turned me off going to them altogether.

I'm a bit worried that it might send the wrong message to people who don't know me very well though. I still have to work that one out. "A good Christian boy in a club?!? Outrageous! What the hell are you doing here?" was what I got from some of the poeple who we bumped into who know me from school. That worried me a little bit.

I know Christians aren't usually found in clubs although I personally don't see a problem with it. For me it actually goes hand in hand with my personal policy on alcohol, sure, I may drink one or two from time to time but it's not a big part of my life and I'm always careful not to do anything that I'll regret later. I don't really want to go on and on about this though, it puts a dampener on the whole mood of this piece.

Yes. I refer to my blogs as 'pieces'. Or at least I did then. Actually mostly I refer to them as posts like most other normal bloggers.

Anyway, I have an exam on Tuesday and my final assignment (but it's a monster of a thing) due on Friday. I just know that's all I'm going to be doing all this week. *groan*. But then after that it's a month of holidays!

Hooray!

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-11-26T11:26:06Z</dcterms:modified>

ANZAC Day commemorations

How is everyone on this, the most controvertial of ANZAC days?

Not only is this year the first where the Turkish soldiers are officially being recognised in the marches but there are also Diggers protesting with orange ribbons AND there's a cyclone due in Darwin today.

I'll deal with each of these in that order.

First, should Jhonny Turk be allowed to march in our ANZAC day celebrations? I say yes. Why? Because the relationship between the ANZACs and the Turks is unique in commemorative wartime history. There's alot of respect there both during the war and after it. In a figurative sense, the Turks allow us to 'invade' their country with thousands of pilgrims every year on ANZAC day to commemorate the original invasion. As far as I can tell, what with my oh-so extensive knowledge of war history (I did modern history in highschool, it gives me a basic understanding), the Turks were the most noble enemy we've ever fought against. I can't see us letting the Germans or the Japanese in our ANZAC day marches, one because neither of those were involved with the original ANZAC day and two because they both did some very awful things in their time as our enemies which Australia just can't condone by allowing them to march. I feel like this letting the Turkish march is a one-off thing which won't be repeated ever and it reflects the close relationship that Australia, New Zealand and Turkey have with one another.

Second, Diggers protesting. Well I'm not sure where I stand on this one. Sure, many wartime veterans have been screwed around by the red tape that inevidably occurs when the government or any big organisation gets involved in anything. But should they protest on ANZAC day? Honestly I don't know, having never been a victim of this red tape before. I'm sure they're not doing it flippantly. They must be very upset.

Third, Cyclone. Why is it that a huge cyclone always hits Darwin on a special day? Last time it was Christmas Eve and this year it's ANZAC day. I still have alot of friends that live there and I hope they're ok. My brother's fiance, my best friend from primary school, my favourite primary teacher and a whole lot of family friends and other hangers on are there right now. At first I heard it would only be a category 3 cyclone when it got to Darwin and then later I heared it would be stronger than that. Even if it was a category 5 cyclone though I don't think what happened in Innesfail in northern Queensland will happen there. Sure, some people will lose their houses but structures in Darwin are supposed to be built to a code to stand up to that sort of storm. The houses built on the mangroves will suffer though and there will probably be flooding because they don't have that natural barrier anymore. Such is the price for overdevelopment. Still, not everyone has a cyclone shelter like I used to. I'm sure all the people I know will be fine, in fact the death toll will probably be very low (like it was in Innesfail) but alot of damage can still occur. Just keep Darwin in your thoughts.

Like I said, a very busy and controvertial ANZAC day. My brother is marching in the Sydney marches at the moment but I can't watch him because we don't get the Sydney ANZAC march on Queensland TV. Oh well, I'm sure he'll tell me about it (if you don't know, my brother is in the Royal Australian Navy). Yes, he's that brother whose photo I have on my phone. You know the one. It's the one where when I show it to people (in particular, girls) they exclaim "Oh he's so hot! Is he married?". Then I just laugh because that's the exact response from literaly every girl whose seen that photo. And he's my brother so I know how bashful he really is. (If you're reading this, sorry Joel!)

Hehe.

Also finally I've just got to put this at the end to register my blog with Technorati so just ignore it please.

Technorati Profile

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-11-26T11:27:18Z</dcterms:modified>

We are switching to decimal time!

Oh, and didn't you know, my Dad just got busted for dealing in crack cocane to the schoolchildren he teaches and Woolworths is being shut down for insider trading. Also my dog just swallowed an avocado seed. We're expecting a plant to start growing out of one oriface or another any minute now. Oh yeah, and McDonalds has officially announced that they will be starting up their own line of high-class resteraunts to tap into the nieche market of millionare software developers and overthrown European monarchs. Oh, and spaghetti grows on vines in the middle of Italy.

Yes yes, it's April Fools Day. Currently the only 'day' not to be hijacked for some commercial purpose or another. I guess because it's so close to Valentine's day and Easter. And St Patrick's day but nobody know it's St Patty's day until they hear it on the radio. Now I've noticed that I always get rostered on to work on these 'days' that aren't public holidays so on St Pattys day I was saying 'Top of the morning to you' and everybody was looking at me funny because they either didn't know it was St Patty's Day or they didn't know that was a traditional Irish greeting. And I mean, come on. Half of them probably decended from the Irish and yet they have no idea about their cultureal heritage. I mean, gosh, I'm Scottish and I still know about Irish customs and I've never even had an Irish ancestor. Geez.

So anyway I'm wondering that when I go to work today, whether I should play jokes on the customers today. I know there's some rule about not playing jokes on ppl before 12:00 midday or something but I bet you that some smart alec customer's going to make me freak out or something just becaue it's April Fools Day. So I was thinking what pranks I should pull on these poor Woolworths customers. But nothing's come yet. Which makes me very sad. I thought about asking one of them whether they'd like to 'eat here or take away?' after I finish scanning all thir stuff but I ripped that off some church friends of mine who had that happen to them when they bought some stuff at a servo. Still, it's on my list of things to do to customers but I was hoping to do it to my last customer ever on my last day of working at Woolies. But I fear (I'm actually horrified by this) that that may be some time away.

So yeah that's my April Fools Day thing.

Toodleoo

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-11-26T11:28:17Z</dcterms:modified>

The Sweetness of the Frog

Actually this entry has nothing to do with frogs or sweetness. I just thought I should point out the irony that I made a highly controvertial comment about the Irish a couple of days ago and now today is St. Patrick's Day. I wore green. Did you?

Also just to let you know, keep looking at my song lyric post via the link I posted just under the stat counter. It expands all the time.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-11-26T11:29:01Z</dcterms:modified>

Dig on son, dig on!

For anyone who doesn't know already I turned 18 last Sunday. I had a bit of a doo where my parents rented an apartment for the weekend and all my cousins and a few friends came. There were a couple of hilights that I want to share with you.

On Saturday (the last day of my childhood) I had some friends from school come and sit around for a while. But also on that day my brother and his fiance came down from Darwin to look for places to get married. Consequently they were able to come and see me that night and the next morning. It was very special.

Also I got a really excellent birthday experience from Jacinta, Samantha and Luke. When they gave me a pair of gardening gloves, a heavy duty trowl (well, little spade thing) and a 22 litre bag of easy-wet mulch I thought they wanted me to take up gardening. But no, there was a purpose. Outside was a plastic box full of hay (sugar cane mulch actually but who cares). After being instructed to dig in the mulch I came across a card that said the usual 'Happy 18th' and the rather less usual 'dig on son, dig on'. Half an hour later I was surrounded with a small mountain of hay riddled with wrapping paper, surrounded by my friends each holding a small present exhumed from the box. Such presents included a plastic hard hat (I'm a working man now... aparantly), a small bottle of Jim Beam, one of those necklace flower chain things of frangipanis, a fur and leather "party whip" obviously meant for more nefarious activities (also presumably suitable for "ages three and up"), a pair of ultra-cheap sunglasses for little kids, a knife stolen from Pizza Hut wrapped in kiddy meal discount vouchers, a $10 gift voucher for Electronics Boutique, a box inside a box inside a box inside a box (inside a box) that contained a note saying "now go back and start again", a novelty masturbation kit, a cigar, a beer glass with 'Congratulations you're 60' written on it (apparantly it was the closest thing they could find to one that said 'Congrats you're 18'), a sheep with dangly legs (the closest thing they could find to a fish), a banner that says "Congratulations, its a Boy!" (the closest thing to Happy Birthday!) and a tube with a funnel in it (aka, beer bong). There may have been some other stuff that I've forgotten too. Long story a bit shorter than it could have been: it was the most adventure I've ever had in unwrapping a birthday present.

I also got DVDs and books and clothes and sunglasses and a bean bag and gift vouchers and Smurnoffs and a diary and lollies and all manner of other things which were somewhat more useful than the stuff I got in the box of hay.

But enough of the presents. On Sunday when I invited my friends from Church I was winding down having stayed up till 2:00 in the morning. Still I had fun playing one of the board games I recieved from my aunt and uncle with them (very badly, we weren't very good at it). We had lunch etc and it was a good time.

Basicly the weekend was fantastic and it could have been ruined by the torrential rainfall that decided to dump itself on the Gold Coast that weekend (equivalent to a category 2 cyclone but it was fuled by cold air and not warm air but still, I had a winter cyclone-thing pass right over the city on my birthday weekend) and the power went off for an hour or two on Saturday night. But if you don't know me very well you should know that I find dramas like that absolutely halarious or at least quite enjoyable. I had a candlelight supper for my party! So nothing was ruined and it all went off fine.

Anyway, currently I'm at uni wasting time until my tutorial begins at 5:00. I want to be doing my CyberStudies homework (play around with Photoshop and alter some images to convey certain ideas) but I can't find Photoshop on any of the computer lab computers. It must only be on the classroom computers. This is a problem. I asked at the library what I should do and they told me to come back in about an hour (which is about now) so that they could have some time to work on my problem. I think I should go and see how they're doing.

I'll write some more (mabie) when I don't need to run off to the library and when I don't need to desperately need to go to the toilet.

Bye!

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-11-26T11:29:32Z</dcterms:modified>

Block-checker is evil/ Mazfest was a blast

So, I was going to put this uber cool post on my blog as only the Germans can with their exrta words we feel the need to steal when I downloaded this evil little peice of poo called "Block-Checker" which then procedes to advertise itself by hijacking your MSN and puts pre-programmed messages into your conversations which in turn make other people think that it is really good (which it isn't, it sucks) and they download it. Then they start sending evil little messages to people etc etc.

The really bad thing about it is though that you can't delete it from your system. It puts itself on a 'do not delete' register for really important files that are write protected. Then it's a whole drama to get it off. In the end I took a risk and downloaded this tool from the block-checker website that said it would take it off. I figured that it couldn't get any worse. It worked thank goodness but I wasted three hours of my life and I WANT THEM BACK!

But anyway the point of this post really should be my weekend on 'the sunny' aka the Sunshine Coast. It was my aunty Maz's birthday so she surrounded herself with her children and their boyfriends and her neices and nephews. We all sat around and talked about nothing in particular and then had a party on Saturday night. Unfortuneately I was working on Saturday so although I made the party I missed Friday night games. It was really funny though because my Uncle Richard wasn't expecting me to make it (neither was anybody else really, they thought I was working) and I just turned up. I only saw the 'young ones' though (my sister, brother-in-law and my cousins and their boyfriends who are all far older than I am by almost 10 years but anyway) and then my uncle rang me on my mobile. My cousins and sister motioned for me to keep him talking while we sneaked up to his apartment (which was directly above the young ppls apartment) and I stood right in front of him talking on the phone and he didn't even notice. I suppose he thought I was someone else but honestly it took him almost 10 full seconds to realise the person on the phone who he supposed was on the Gold Coast was actually standing directly in front of him. The look on his face was a classic.

So that was basically the sum of the last party I'll go to as a minor ever in my life. Unless I go to a party in America or some equally backward place where the age-for-doing-stuff is 21 and I'm not 21 when I go. Not that my aim for parties is to actually 'get maggot' as they say. Quite the opposite in fact. It is a little leavy-outy when I'm the only person who can't drink even if I would have decided not to anyway. I think, though this may ruffle a few feathers, that I will partake of the 'ol alchol although I find the drunk look very unattractive. I'll try and avoid that one as much as possible. If you haven't guessed I'm turning 18 in two weeks so that's really exciting.

Also I hate to leave this on a bad/sad note but the bookshop job fell through. They said that the big boss above the general manager said that they weren't allowed to hire more than one person and they'd already hired someone before me. Jasmine told me that they were going to hire me though so that makes it better and worse at the same time. I'm gonna apply for more jobs now though. Apparantly my resume is sufficiently impressive to a prospective employer to take a shining to me so I've got that reassurance. So Lucy you can tell Susan sorry I won't be able to alert her to the newest releases.

So what else is there to talk about at 12:15 at night? I think I need to sleep. Read my Song of a Thousand Mules too. Ok, goodnight.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-11-26T11:31:58Z</dcterms:modified>

The Cronicles of Driving Home in a Write Off

So I wasn't the one driving ok? It was Sarah W and, let me tell you all, it was one of the best experiences in my life.

So anyway, it's Hendi's last day on the Gold Coast until he feels like coming back. Again. And it's also Sarah W's "Hello I'm back from Perth for a short stay and, oh, by the way, I got accepted into one of the best acting acadamies in Australia" thing. This calls for a celebration. We, being extraordinarily unimaginative teenagers, decide to go to the movies. We saw Walk the Line which was an excellent film about Johnny Cash. It was too long but that apparantly means it's an excellent film now it's post-Lord of the Rings. Whatever.

So we started watching the film at 9:00pm and it finished 3 hours later at 12:00 midnight. So what do we do? SPINNERS! Cries Hendi. (Spinners is a 24hr restraunt found in the casino complex-thing called Jupiters but not actually in the casino where people gamble area of the casino. A fine establishment with exquisite pizza but rather expensive, being designed for cashed-up problem gamblers and not for 17 year old Woolworths "checkout biaches" working for $10 an hour). Now I didn't want to go at first, being 12:30am but in the end I relented because I had noone to drive me home. I enjoyed my time there which lasted, ooh, mabie an hour at most and I had an overpriced milkshake. It was a nice milkshake but not the best I've had. It was strawberry by the way, yes, STRAWBERRY! Real men drink pink you know.

So then after we all realised that we were at Spinners for no good reason we left and some of us went home. The rest (mostly those over 18) went to have a stickybeak at the sort of gamblers you find in a casino at 1:00am. Sarah W, Ellen and I all got into Sarah's writeoff-bomb-car-thing and headed home. We argued at some length whether Ellen (who had work the next morning, poor Ellen) should be dropped home first and I thought she should but the girls who for some unfathomable reason which I will never be able to discern, being a man, decided to take me home first. Now I live all the way out in Bonogin for goodness sake but in the end I didn't say anything. Sarah and I discovered we both are in love with the scetch show Little Britain and as we were laughing our heads off at Vicky Pollard and the only gay in the village...

It's about time I got to the point.

Two things happened simultaneously. 1. It started to rain harder and 2. The car stopped.

We had run out of petrol.

2:something am in the rain, smack-bang in the middle of Bonogin road were there isn't a petrol station until Mudgeeraba and we run out of petrol. Oh, on a death-trap corner too. Where are those hazard lights?

Now I do not blame Sarah for this. She checked her fuel gage as we passed a petrol station at Robina and under normal circumstances that amount of fuel would have got us to where we needed to go but for some reason this didn't work out this time. So, in this situation I don't know what normal people would do but we sat and discussed for a minute or two and Sarah decided the best course of action would be to call her dad. He came and was remarkably amicable for somebody who has been woken up at two-something in the morning. While we waited for him the rain slacked off and we repositioned the car into a less suicidal position on the corner. We even waved at other cars as they drove by. The bastards didn't even stop to inquire why we were out there at that time with our hazard lights on. Then again those 14 year old girls did just kill all those taxi drivers. But do we look 14 to you?

As we're standing there it starts to rain really heavely again but we could, get this, hear it coming for us. It was like shhhhhhwwoooooaaashshshshhh hhhhwoooooAAAAASHSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAHHHHAAAAAAAHHHHSS SHHHHHHHSSSSHSHSH!!!!!! It was really quite amazing as I'm sure you can tell from my uber accurate description of the event. So her dad turns up and fills our bomb with petrol which is something I could get in trouble saying in a public place nowadays and she drives us off to my house in the mist and pouring rain.

Why is this one of the best things that has ever happened to me? Because, for starters, I have never run out of petrol before and, for finishers, we neer stopped laughing throughout the entire event. In fact, I found it so funny I think I should make a short, existential film about it. It will be in black and white. Except for the part in the casino because they are big and gaudy. *bling bling*

Mabie then other people will go and watch the film, go to a Spinners-esque restraunt and run out of petrol too. Thus fulfilling a very important life experience.

So ends The Cronicles of Driving Home in a Write Off.

Fillet-Rohan-Person.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-11-26T11:33:34Z</dcterms:modified>

More Foties!

Added some new photos to Fillets Foto Folio which are pretty sweet.

Oh yeah and the photo of me on my licence is nowhere near as good as my own "MTV Fillet" photo. I wanted to ask if I could use that one but I forgot to.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-11-26T11:46:58Z</dcterms:modified>
